The energy sector of the national economy has the Ministry of Energy as the governing body responsible for the formulation and implementation of policy, regulatory issues, and administration as well as coordination of all organizations necessary to achieve the government’s energy objectives.

Other organisations in the sector include: The Energy Commission and Energy Foundation, the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company and the Ghana Oil Company (GOIL) for downstream activities of refining, marketing and distribution respectively and the National Petroleum Authority which oversees pricing in the downstream sector.
