GNPC Initiates Community-Based Environmental Stewardship via New ECO Club Launch in Tema

As part of its ECO Motion Campaign, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has formally executed a targeted reforestation exercise at two key educational institutions in the Tema Metropolis: Aggrey Road 2 Junior High School and St. John Bosco R/C School.

The event marked the official launch of the GNPC ECO Club at Aggrey Road 2 JHS. This initiative transcends mere tree planting; it is a strategic effort designed to ensure the long-term viability of the planted trees while successfully inculcating a definitive culture of environmental stewardship within the younger generation.

The Headmistress of Aggrey Road 2 JHS, Mrs. Joana A.P. Mensah, acknowledged the program's instrumental role in supplementing the school’s existing green initiatives. She stated that the project effectively integrates practical environmental education, teaching students about responsibility and the criticality of sustainability metrics.

During an interactive session, Miss Nina Antwi-Yeboah of GNPC’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) Department provided training to the newly inaugurated club members. Her presentation focused on best-practice methodologies for nurturing and protecting the saplings. Miss Antwi-Yeboah specifically commended St. John Bosco School for its demonstrated excellence in maintaining the trees planted during last year's campaign, setting a clear operational standard for the new ECO Club.

Mr. Famous Kofi Ayivor, GNPC’s Manager of Corporate Communication, emphasised the Corporation’s non-negotiable, long-term commitment to both environmental sustainability and nurturing future green leaders within Ghana.

“The GNPC ECO Clubs represent more than just symbolic action; they are practical, monitored investments aimed at proactively grooming the next generation of environmental stewards,” Mr. Ayivor stated. “We are committed to continuous engagement, including routine site visits, knowledge sharing on care methodologies, performance monitoring of the planted stock, and further investment in the academic and personal development of the participating students.”

The exemplary dedication of the school patrons, Mr. Frank Teye and Madam Beauty Korkor Akotia, was recognized for ensuring the operational effectiveness of the school’s environmental clubs.

The execution of the GNPC ECO Motion Campaign and the establishment of these clubs concretely reflect the Corporation’s adherence to its robust Corporate Social Investment (CSI) mandate, demonstrating tangible action toward climate mitigation and sustained community development.
