GNPC and Partners Sign New MoU to Advance Healthcare Delivery in the Western Region

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), together with its upstream partners led by Eni, has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Health Service to support the next phase of healthcare development interventions in Ghana’s Western Region.

The agreement builds on a series of earlier investments aimed at improving access to essential health services in host communities, reaffirming the partners’ shared commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery in the region.

Between 2014 and 2017, targeted interventions were implemented across communities, including Sanzule, Bakanta, Krisan, and Eikwe. These initiatives focused on expanding healthcare infrastructure and enhancing service delivery through the construction and equipping of Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, the refurbishment of health centres, the rehabilitation of hospitals, and the provision of emergency response assets, including land and marine ambulances.

Recent assessments indicate that while these interventions have improved access to care and strengthened foundational systems, additional support is required to address emerging priorities. Key areas identified include emergency response capacity, availability of critical medical equipment, and targeted infrastructure upgrades.

The newly signed MoU is designed to respond to these needs through a more focused and coordinated set of interventions. Planned areas of support include strengthening emergency response systems, providing essential medical equipment, and refurbishing selected health facilities.

Under the framework, the Ghana Health Service will serve as the coordinating and regulatory authority, ensuring that all interventions are aligned with national healthcare priorities and existing development plans.

The next phase of the programme will involve securing the requisite approvals for engaging an implementing partner to lead the detailed design and execution of projects under the agreement.

This initiative highlights the continued collaboration between GNPC and its partners in advancing sustainable development in host communities while aligning social investment efforts with clearly identified national and local healthcare needs.
