GNPC Collaborates with Traditional Leadership for Pre-Homowo Environmental Sanitation Initiative in Lante Djan We

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), in collaboration with Zesta Environmental Solutions and the traditional leadership of Lante Djan We, completed a comprehensive environmental sanitation exercise on Tuesday, 29th July 2025. This initiative was undertaken in anticipation of the upcoming Homowo Festival, scheduled to commence on August 2nd, 2025.

This pre-festival cleanup aligns with GNPC's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability objectives, focusing on enhancing environmental cleanliness within the Ga Mashie enclave. The exercise involved extensive clearing of drains and gutters, sweeping of street shoulders, and systematic disposal of refuse across the Lante Djan We traditional area. A key component of the effort also included the removal of structures identified as impediments to water flow, a proactive measure to mitigate potential flooding.

Eric Pwadura, GNPC's Director of Corporate Affairs, stressed the corporation's commitment to community engagement and environmental stewardship. "This cleanup exercise exemplifies GNPC's dedication to corporate social responsibility and our ongoing commitment to supporting the cultural heritage of our communities while promoting environmental sustainability," Mr. Pwadura stated.

Mannye Naa Lamiley Ajaaku Dromo II, Queen Mother of Lante Djan We, conveyed the community's appreciation for the collaborative effort. "We are profoundly grateful to GNPC and Zesta Environmental Solutions for their invaluable support in preparing our community for the sacred Homowo celebrations. This gesture reflects a deep respect for our traditions and a genuine concern for our environmental well-being," she remarked.

The presence of Nii Lantei Otanka II, Chief of Lante Djan We, further highlighted the significance of this initiative to the traditional area.

The annual Homowo Festival, a pivotal cultural celebration for the Ga people, attracts many visitors. The pre-festival sanitation efforts are critical to ensuring the community is optimally prepared to host these celebrations in a clean and healthy environment.

GNPC reiterates its commitment to supporting community development and cultural preservation as integral components of its broader sustainability framework.
