GNPC Engages Tema Traditional Council on Tema City Gate Gas Project
As Ghana intensifies efforts to strengthen its natural gas infrastructure to support industrial growth and long-term energy security, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) continues to engage key stakeholders on the proposed Tema City Gate Project.
To ensure that the development of this strategic national infrastructure is guided by open dialogue, mutual understanding, and strong partnerships with host communities, a delegation from the Corporation recently met with the Tema Traditional Council to discuss the project.
A key component of GNPC's strategic infrastructure investment programme, the proposed Tema City Gate Project seeks to enhance Ghana's natural gas transmission and distribution network. Upon completion, the facility is expected to improve the reliability and efficiency of gas supply to industries and other consumers, supporting economic growth while advancing the country's long-term energy security objectives.
The engagement offered the Corporation an opportunity to outline the project’s strategic importance while reaffirming its commitment to responsible development that respects host communities' interests and fosters lasting partnerships.
GNPC's Social Performance Manager, Ms. Patience Lartey, noted that the meeting was an important step in building the mutual trust required to create an environment in which such investments can be successfully implemented for the benefit of present and future generations.
“We recognise that the successful implementation of a project goes beyond engineering and construction; hence, our need to engage the Traditional Council to discuss the proposed project, better understand the community’s perspectives, and explore opportunities for continued collaboration throughout its lifecycle,” she said.
She further emphasised that meaningful stakeholder engagement remains key to the Corporation's approach in delivering projects that serve both national development priorities and local community needs.
This engagement reflects GNPC's broader commitment to stakeholder collaboration as it expands energy infrastructure and responsibly develops Ghana's petroleum resources in support of the nation's industrialisation agenda.
