GNPC Joins National Clean-Up Exercise in Response to Presidential Call

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, has joined the nationwide clean-up exercise declared by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, affirming the Corporation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible corporate citizenship.

Held around Petroleum House and adjoining areas in Tema, the exercise brought together Management and staff of GNPC, with support from the Tema Metropolitan Assembly and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, to undertake a large-scale clean-up aimed at promoting cleaner, safer, and healthier communities following the recent floods.

Addressing staff before the exercise commenced, Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah said protecting the environment is a shared responsibility that requires collective action from both institutions and individuals.

“The recent floods have reminded us that our health and that of our communities is closely linked to the health of our environment. This exercise reflects the values we uphold as a responsible corporate citizen, and we remain open to supporting initiatives that continue to create cleaner, safer, and healthier communities while delivering lasting value for Ghana.”

Director of Human Resources Dr. Edward Appiah-Brafoh noted that GNPC’s participation was in direct response to the President’s call for institutions and citizens to support the national clean-up campaign following the devastating floods experienced across parts of the country.

He explained that the exercise sought to restore cleaner surroundings while helping to minimise the potential public health risks associated with flood-related waste and poor sanitation.

“While today’s exercise responds to a national call to action, environmental stewardship has always been part of GNPC’s culture. Through initiatives such as our EcoMotion programme, we have consistently mobilised staff to undertake environmental campaigns across our operational areas. We believe creating clean, safe, and healthy environments is a shared responsibility that must extend beyond today.”

Mr. Kenneth Kofi Agbekomefa Edor, GNPC Manager for Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE), used the occasion to encourage Ghanaians to make environmental cleanliness a daily habit rather than an occasional exercise.

“Our environment is us. It reflects who we are. Keeping it clean should not be reserved for national campaigns alone. Every individual has a role to play in maintaining safe, healthy, and dignified surroundings for us and future generations.”

Throughout the exercise, staff cleared drains, removed litter and debris, swept public spaces, and undertook sanitation activities around Petroleum House and surrounding areas, contributing to the broader national effort to improve sanitation and reduce flood risks.

This exercise reinforces GNPC’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability and complements the Corporation’s ongoing initiatives, which encourage responsible environmental practices and active employee participation in protecting the communities where it operates.
