GNPC Marks International Women’s Day with Renewed Commitment to Women’s Inclusion, Growth, and Leadership.
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has reaffirmed its commitment to creating deliberate pathways for women to grow, lead, and contribute across the petroleum value chain as it marked International Women’s Day 2026 in collaboration with the Petroleum Ladies Association (PELA).
Held in Accra under the theme, “From Desk to Drilling: Giving Access, Giving to Gain at GNPC,” the event brought together staff and leadership to reflect on the need to move beyond representation towards more intentional access to opportunities within Ghana’s energy sector.
Central to the discussions was the recognition that meaningful progress for women in the workplace requires trust, exposure, support, and the deliberate creation of opportunities.
Delivering the keynote address, Ag. Chief Executive Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah stressed that institutions must look beyond the mere presence of women in the workplace and focus on whether they are being given the space to contribute meaningfully.
“When we speak about giving access, we often limit ourselves to entry when, in fact, it is about exposure, trust, and opportunity,” he said. “It is about who is given the chance to take on critical assignments, who is brought into important conversations, and who is supported to grow over time.”
He added that for GNPC, expanding access is not only a matter of inclusion but also a strategic imperative for building a stronger, more effective institution.
According to the Ag. CE, as GNPC works to strengthen production, expand exploration, and position itself as a more competitive national oil company, it must deliberately harness the full strength of its people.
A major highlight of the event was a candid panel discussion featuring Deputy Chief Executive for Exploration and Production, Michael N. A. Aryeetey, alongside Directors Edward Appiah-Brafoh, Albert London-Nyewan, Korshie Gavor, and Kwesi K. Eyiah. The panel openly examined existing gaps in access and advancement for women and the practical steps being taken to address them.
Discussions focused on the sustained support, exposure, institutional commitment, and leadership action required to help women thrive across all levels of the organisation.
The event also provided an opportunity for female staff to share personal reflections, adding valuable perspective to the broader conversation on growth, resilience, and opportunity at GNPC.
The commemoration served as a reminder that progress will not occur by chance but through deliberate, consistent decisions across leadership, teams, and systems.
As GNPC continues to strengthen its technical, operational, and leadership capacity, it remains committed to ensuring that women are not only represented within the organisation but are also empowered to contribute fully, grow confidently, and lead meaningfully.
