GNPC Reaffirms Commitment to Developing Local Geoscience Expertise
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has reiterated its commitment to developing local geoscience expertise to strengthen Ghana’s petroleum industry and support the responsible management of the country’s natural resources at the Ghana Institute of Geoscientists Conference (GHIGCON) Young Geoscientists Forum (YGF) 2026, held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of GNPC’s Chief Executive, Vincent Hotor, the Director of Subsurface highlighted the importance of geoscience in petroleum exploration, resource management, and national development. He encouraged young geoscientists to deepen their technical expertise, share knowledge, and build professional networks to meet the industry's evolving demands.
Held over three days under the theme “From Earth to Policy: Geoscience, Legislation & National Development,” the conference brought together geoscientists, industry leaders, policymakers, academics, and young professionals to discuss geoscience's role in shaping policy, strengthening governance, and advancing national development.
GNPC contributed to the conference’s technical programme by having its experts participate in key discussions on geoscience governance and workforce development. The Corporation’s Senior Geophysicist, Prince Atubrah, presented on “Geoscience Legislation, Governance & the Geoscience Act,” while Clarissa Amanda Pardie, Lead Geologist, joined a panel discussion on preparing Africa’s future geoscience workforce through technological innovation, adaptive mindsets, and professional development.
The conference culminated in GNPC being adjudged Corporate Partner of the Year and presented with the award in recognition of its engagement with the Ghana Institute of Geoscientists and its support for professional development in the geoscience sector.
The Corporation’s participation underscores its commitment to strengthening local technical capacity and nurturing the next generation of geoscience professionals whose expertise will be vital to the sustainable development of Ghana’s petroleum industry.
