GNPC Staff Promote Health and Wellness at Maiden SSA 5KM Walk

Staff of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) took to the University of Ghana campus on Saturday, 29 August 2026, for the maiden GNPC Senior Staff Association (SSA) 5 km Health Walk. Held under the theme “Lace Up, Show Up, Power Up,” the walk brought together staff, management, former employees, National Service Personnel, and representatives from partner institutions for a morning of physical activity, interaction, and a shared reminder of the importance of making personal health and wellbeing a priority.

Participants were taken through a warm-up session before setting off on the 5 km route around the Legon campus. President of the GNPC Senior Staff Association, Ernest Youngmann, said the initiative was intended to encourage staff to be more deliberate about staying active and taking care of their health, particularly alongside the demands of work and everyday life. “We spend a significant part of our lives at work, so as an Association, we believe it is equally important to encourage our members and colleagues to make time for their health and wellbeing. The walk is a simple way of getting people active, bringing us together, and reminding us that looking after our health must also be a priority.”

After completing the 5 km walk, participants took part in a corporate wellness session led by the TN You Corporate Wellness and Fitness Team, which focused on practical ways to maintain healthier and more active lifestyles. The team also guided participants through a series of fun group activities designed to encourage interaction, teamwork, collaboration, and bonding among colleagues.

The event gave staff a chance to engage outside the normal work environment while interacting with former colleagues, National Service Personnel, and counterparts from other entities, including the Ghana National Gas Company and GNPC Explorco.

The walk formed part of the SSA’s efforts to promote healthy living and wellbeing among staff while creating opportunities for stronger interaction and camaraderie across the GNPC community. Mr Youngmann thanked staff, management, and participating institutions for supporting the initiative and expressed the Association’s hope that the health walk would help build a more active, health-conscious culture among staff.
