GNPC Strengthens Local Vendor Capacity to Enhance Transparent Procurement

Reinforcing its commitment to transparent procurement and local content development, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), in collaboration with the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), has organised a targeted capacity-building programme in Tema for its local vendor base, bringing together registered suppliers across critical service areas, including catering, cleaning, branding, and technical support services, to strengthen their ability to support the Corporation’s day-to-day operations.

The training focused on the practical application of Ghana’s public procurement framework and the effective use of the Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS). The objective was to improve the quality, compliance, and competitiveness of vendor submissions while reinforcing adherence to regulatory requirements.

This initiative forms part of GNPC’s broader strategy to deepen local participation in its supply chain while maintaining efficient, transparent, and fully compliant procurement processes.

Speaking on the importance of vendor capability development, GNPC’s Manager for Supply Chain and Local Content Development, Seidu Salim Braimah, noted, “Local content requires capability. At GNPC, our focus is to ensure that Ghanaian businesses are well-prepared to compete, comply, and deliver within a structured and transparent procurement environment.”

He further highlighted the Corporation’s long-term objective of positioning local vendors to access opportunities within exploration and production (E&P) procurement, particularly as GNPC advances its ambition to become an operator in the near term.

The capacity building programme was delivered in two phases. The first, led by GNPC’s Deputy Manager for Supply Chain and Local Content Development, Mrs Barbara Afriyie-Owusu, provided participants with a detailed overview of GNPC’s procurement processes, including guidance on preparing responsive and competitive tenders and avoiding common submission errors.

The second phase, facilitated by PPA officials, offered a hands-on walkthrough of the end-to-end tendering process, with practical demonstrations on how to register, set up, and submit bids via the GHANEPS platform.

Participant feedback indicated improved understanding of procurement requirements, often perceived as complex, and increased confidence in navigating the GHANEPS system and submitting compliant tenders.

The programme underscores GNPC’s continued commitment to local content development by equipping Ghanaian businesses to participate more effectively in its procurement processes. By enhancing vendor readiness, the Corporation anticipates higher-quality submissions, reduced process delays, and a more competitive supplier base.

Ultimately, this supports GNPC’s strategic objective of building a procurement system that is efficient, transparent, and responsive, in line with its expanding operational mandate.
