GNPC, UMaT Move to Deepen Collaboration in Petroleum Education and Research
The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) are exploring opportunities to deepen their collaboration in petroleum education, research, and skills development to support Ghana’s oil and gas industry.
The discussions took place when a delegation from UMaT, led by the Dean of the GNPC School of Petroleum Studies, Professor Eric Broni-Bediako, met with the GNPC Chief Executive, Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, at the Corporation’s Petroleum House in Tema.
Professor Broni-Bediako briefed the Chief Executive on the University's plans to expand the GNPC School of Petroleum Studies and elevate it to a college within the next two years.
Under the proposed transition, the school would become the GNPC College of Petroleum Studies, with expanded capacity for training and research in petroleum and related disciplines.
Established in 2020 with support from GNPC, the school provides training and research in petroleum, natural gas, and related engineering and management disciplines as part of the Corporation’s investment in developing the local expertise Ghana’s petroleum industry needs.
Professor Broni-Bediako said UMaT was keen to build on the existing relationship and identified further areas where collaboration with GNPC could support the University’s work.
Mr. Ntow Amoah welcomed the University’s interest in expanding the partnership and encouraged the delegation to submit a formal proposal outlining the proposed areas of collaboration for consideration by the Corporation.
During the engagement, the University also presented a citation to Mr. Ntow Amoah on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, in recognition of his leadership and GNPC’s continued support of UMaT.
The engagement builds on the relationship between the Corporation and the University as well as GNPC’s broader investment in developing the technical knowledge and skills required to support the growth of Ghana’s petroleum industry.
