GNPC's Petroleum Ladies Association Successfully Hosts 2025 STEM Quiz

Takoradi, Ghana – In commemoration of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC)'s 40th Anniversary, the Petroleum Ladies Association (PELA) successfully hosted the 2025 PELA STEM Quiz at the Energy House Auditorium in Takoradi. The event, held under the compelling theme, “Her Knowledge, Our Future,” emphasises GNPC's commitment to youth empowerment and national development.

The programme commenced with a solemn moment of silence in honour of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, to recognize her lifelong advocacy for women’s empowerment and education across Ghana.

Delivering the welcome address, Ms. Judith Ampomah, President of PELA, highlighted the significance of the competition. She stated that the quiz was meticulously designed to not only assess academic knowledge but also to "foster curiosity, confidence, and courage among young learners." Ms. Ampomah emphasized that empowering the next generation, particularly young women, represents a vital investment in Ghana's sustainable future.

Representing GNPC Management, Dr. Kwame Karikari lauded the participating schools for their enthusiasm and demonstrated innovation. He reiterated that this initiative directly aligns with GNPC’s core commitment to nurturing future talent and promoting STEM education as an integral part of the Corporation’s broader vision for national socio-economic development.

A representative from the Ghana Education Service (GES) commended GNPC and PELA for their consistent and impactful support of educational and youth development programs. The representative encouraged the students to leverage the competition as a robust platform for personal growth, collaboration, and the pursuit of academic excellence.

The competition featured five high-achieving schools: Ahantaman SHS, Archbishop Porter Girls SHS, Takoradi SHS, Tadisco, and Fijai SHS. The students showcased exceptional brilliance and composure throughout the demanding, multiple-round competition.

Adding significant value to the event, the programme included an engaging STEM talk delivered by professional women from GNPC. These mentors shared insightful career experiences, actively encouraging students to pursue rewarding careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony, formally recognizing outstanding performances. This ceremony reaffirmed GNPC and PELA’s shared, enduring dedication to empowering the next generation of innovators and future industry leaders.

Through strategic initiatives like the PELA STEM Quiz, GNPC and PELA continue to champion education, promote academic excellence, and actively contribute to securing a future defined by knowledge, innovation, and sustainable opportunity for Ghana.
