PELA Champions GNPC’s Breast Cancer Awareness: Aligning Health Strategy with Human Capital Investment
To commemorate this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Petroleum Ladies Association (PELA) of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) successfully executed a critical health initiative under the theme, “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”
This campaign was specifically aimed at promoting early detection and elevating health literacy across the GNPC community, thereby directly aligning with the Corporation’s overarching goal of safeguarding its most valuable asset: its employees.
In her opening address, Ms. Judith Ampomah, President of PELA, emphasized the imperative for proactive personal health management. She urged female staff to prioritize regular medical screenings and noted the need to cultivate safe, non-stigmatizing environments within the Corporation for sharing health concerns and experiences.
The initiative received robust executive endorsement from Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, Chief Executive Officer of GNPC. He commended PELA’s leadership in promoting women’s health and empowerment and reaffirmed Management’s commitment to employee welfare. The CEO delivered a clear mandate, stating that “early detection saves lives,” and urged all staff to make consistent health screenings a personal priority.
Further cementing the corporate commitment, Dr. Edward Appiah-Brafoh, Director of Human Resources, confirmed that the campaign is fully integrated with GNPC’s official corporate health strategy, which emphasizes preventive care and routine medical screening as key components of sustainable employee well-being.
The necessity of vigilance was reinforced by Mr. Eric Asare, President of the Senior Staff Association (SSA), whose personal reflection provided a compelling grassroots testimonial on the criticality of timely health checks, reminding the entire workforce that awareness paired with action yields tangible results.
The event concluded with a powerful moment of corporate unity, honoring three PELA colleagues, Miriam Opoku-Afriyie, Magdalene Plassi, and Doreen Kodzi, who recently survived a traumatic experience abroad. Their shared story of resilience and gratitude served as a poignant, visceral illustration of the campaign’s central theme: a reminder that every journey, whether a health challenge or an external crisis, highlights the strength derived from mutual support.
This campaign stands as an exemplary demonstration of GNPC’s commitment to internal social responsibility and corporate well-being. Through leadership, compassion, and critical partnership, PELA continues to serve as an indispensable force, championing a healthier, more resilient, and proactive workforce for GNPC’s next phase of organizational growth and success.
