Scholar’s Aid Project Continues to Support Students Across Coastal Communities

For many families in Ghana’s coastal fishing communities, financial constraints remain a barrier to accessing quality education. Through the Scholar’s Aid Project (SAP), the Jubilee-TEN Partners are seeking to ease that burden while creating long-term opportunities for young people in communities within the offshore oil and gas activity enclave.

As part of the initiative, beneficiaries of the scholarship programme recently received educational and welfare support packages during a week-long stakeholder engagement held across six coastal districts in the Western Region.

The exercise brought together students, parents, education officials, and representatives of the Jubilee-TEN Partners, including the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and Tullow Oil, as part of ongoing efforts to support education and community development within the beneficiary areas.

The support packages comprised food items, household essentials, and financial stipends to assist with the students’ upkeep and academic needs throughout the school term. In addition, female beneficiaries received sanitary support items to promote student welfare, dignity, and sustained school attendance and retention.

The Scholar’s Aid Project forms part of the broader Sea Access Programme being implemented by the Jubilee-TEN Partners to address some of the social and economic challenges contributing to canoe incursions around offshore oil facilities. By investing in education and youth development, the programme seeks to provide alternative pathways and opportunities for young people within coastal communities.

Beyond the distribution exercise, the engagements also created an avenue for interaction with students, parents, and education stakeholders while allowing the partners to gather feedback and assess the programme’s impact within the beneficiary communities.

Representatives from GNPC, alongside district education officials and partner institutions, encouraged students to remain committed to their education and make meaningful use of the opportunities being provided through the programme.

Speaking during one of the engagements, Joseph Boateng of GNPC’s Social Performance Department encouraged beneficiaries to remain focused on their academic development while also promoting safety awareness within their communities.

The engagements concluded with a renewed commitment from the partners and beneficiary communities to continue supporting academic excellence and strengthening the programme’s long-term impact across the coastal districts.
