Since 2013, GNPC in partnership with the Ghana Fastest Human (GFH) have
been touring major towns across the country to unearth budding talents for
the development of athletics in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the 9th Edition of the GNPC Ghana Fastest Human
on Friday, May, 2022 the CEO of GNPC, Opoku - Ahweneeh Danquah was
optimistic that GFH will bring back the dominance and recognition Ghana
received at major international events especially in the 1960's and 70's. He
said, "We are hopeful that the investment, GNPC is putting in this project will
develop new talents and sprinters who will represent Ghana at major events".
Mr. Danquah, added that "with exploits of Benjamin Azamati who was the
winner of the GFH male 100 meters event in 2019 and now Ghana's national
100 meters record holder, I am hopeful that the right talents will be identified
and made available to support Ghana's participation at 2022 African
Championship and commonwealth games, the 13th African Games to be held
in Accra, and the Paris Olympics Games in 2024".
Mr. Opoku-Ahweneeh Danquah encouraged the GFH team to continue working
hard to unearth and train talents for the nation. He emphasized that as the
National Oil Company of Ghana, GNPC will endeavour to use oil revenues to
benefit and positively impact the lives of Ghanaians, indicating that GNPC's
policy on Corporate Social Investments is focused on Education, Health,
Sanitation and Sports sponsorship across the country.
About GFH
The GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human is an event organized by GFH. It is the brain - child of Mr Reks Brobby
- a Ghanaian and a former Olympic who competed for Ghana in the men's 4x100 meters relay at the
1984 Summer Olympic in the United States. GFH seeks to unearth talents of Ghanaians across the
country. The annual event has been running for the past seven years from 2013 - 2019, leaving out
2020 due to the corona virus pandemic. Previous winners of the championship have gone on to represent
the country at various international events. GNPC has been the headline and clothing sponsor for the
event since inception. The corporation has renewed its sponsorship of the event for the next three years
ending September, 2024. GFH is expected to organise an athletic competition over 100 meters for Under
10, under 15, Under 18 and seniors. The objective is to find the fastest males and females in Ghana.
Contestants for these events shall be shortlisted from Special Athletics Competitions organized in
Tamale, Kumasi and Cape Coast. Winners of the final competition will get the chance to be selected into
the GNPC Speedsters Club where overall best performers (three or four) from the national
championships are selected by a team of technical experts; placed on a year-long residential
programme, put on a diet with a psychologist helping to sharpen their mental condition for competition.
